Description

Local Logic's Climate Risk data provides forward-looking, science-based risk ratings for a location across key climate hazards — heat, precipitation, wildfire, drought, flood, and (in the US) wind — across the United States and Canada. Ratings run 0–100 and reflect projected conditions through 2050, so homeseekers and agents can weigh long-term climate exposure alongside other location factors.

The hazards

Each hazard is rated independently.

How to read the rating

Each hazard is scored 0–100, relative to Local Logic's coverage area, in five bands:

Climate Risk uses a 0–100 scale. This is different from Location Scores, which are returned 0–5 (displayed 0–10). Don't treat a Climate Risk rating as a Location Score.

Time horizon

Ratings reflect projected conditions through 2050 — approximately the term of a standard 30-year mortgage. Projections are modelled under moderate and high greenhouse-gas emissions scenarios, representing a range of possible futures.

Coverage

Available across the mainland United States (excluding Alaska & Hawaii) and Canada at the address level. Coverage is not identical across hazards and countries — the main differences to know:

  • Wind is available in the United States only.
  • Flood coverage in Canada reflects surface (pluvial) flooding only; US flood modelling also includes coastal, storm-surge, and riverine flooding.
  • Drought is modelled differently in each country, so US and Canadian drought ratings aren't directly comparable.
  • Heat ratings exclude Canada's northern territories (Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon).

How this is calculated

For each hazard, the frequency and severity of extreme events are modelled — historically and projected through 2050 — from internationally accepted climate models and government datasets, and expressed as a 0–100 rating relative to the coverage area. Ratings describe the location's hazard exposure, not an individual building.

How this is calculated

What it measures — and what it doesn't. Climate Risk rates a location's projected exposure to climate hazards through 2050, on a 0–100 scale (not the 0–10 Location Scores scale). For each hazard, the frequency and severity of extreme events are modelled from internationally accepted climate models and government datasets. It is a relative hazard rating — not an insurance price or a site-specific survey.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Climate Risk data available?

Across the contiguous United States (excluding Hawaii & Alaska) and Canada, at the address level. Some hazards differ by country — wind is US-only, Canadian flood coverage reflects surface flooding only, drought is modelled differently in each country, and heat excludes Canada's northern territories.

What scale are the ratings on?

Each hazard is rated 0–100 (five bands from Relatively Low to Extreme), relative to Local Logic's coverage area. This is not the 0–10 Location Scores scale.

What time period do the ratings cover?

Projected conditions through 2050, modelled under moderate and high emissions scenarios.

Does Climate Risk include wind or hurricane risk?

Wind risk is available for locations in the United States. Hurricane risk is not currently offered as a separate rating.

Why do the reports show a "Storm" rating?

"Storm" is the display name used in Local Logic reports for the Precipitationhazard — the same underlying rating.

What Climate Risk does and doesn't tell you

Ratings are projections, not guarantees, and are relative to Local Logic's coverage area rather than absolute probabilities for a specific structure. They describe hazard exposure for a location — they do not price insurance, assess an individual building's construction or mitigation, or replace a site-specific engineering or flood survey.
